In April Englishmen celebrate the birth of William Shakespeare.
The greatest of English writers was born at Stratford-on-Avon in 1564.
The exact day of his birth is unknown, but scholars have assumed he was born on 23d of April. This also is the day of his death.
This year, the 400th anniversary of the playwright's death, celebrations
will commence in the United Kingdom and across the world to honour
Shakespeare and his work.
He was an English poet, playwright and
actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in England and
the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet, and the "Bard of Avon".
Shakespeare wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems.His the most famous plays are the four great tragedies - Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear. William also wrote several historycal plays. Eight of these plays were about English kings, including Richard II, Henry and
Richard III. He also wrote comedies, such as A Midsummer Night's Dream
and Twelfth Night. Thanks his works he is the Third the most translated author of the world.
